Whoever will recite [the Chaplet] will receive great mercy at the hour of death. … Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy. I desire that the whole world know My infinite mercy.

Our Lord to St. Faustina

St. Faustina received the words of the Divine Mercy Chaplet during one of her many visions in 1935. Our Lord urged her to pray the Chaplet often to teach others to do so. It is appropriate to pray the Chaplet during the three o’clock hour (the hour of mercy) or after receiving communion but you can pray it anytime. Remember that you can offer the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for any intention you want.

The Divine Mercy Chaplet reminds us of how forgiving God is and how much He loves us. We never have to be afraid or worry because God will always forgive our sins and He will always love us. When you pray the Chaplet you can ask God for forgiveness for anything you’ve done wrong and for the grace to do better in the future. You can also ask God to pour out His mercy on the world. Or you can simply speak to Jesus like the friend and brother He is to us. Take comfort in knowing that God is always ready to forgive you and will never abandon you.

How to pray the divine mercy chaplet

You can use your rosary beads to help you follow along with the Chaplet or you can just use your fingers to help count.

1. Begin with the Sign of the Cross. Then pray one Our Father, one Hail Mary and the Apostle’s Creed.

2. Pray these words once on each Our Father bead:

Eternal Father, I offer you the body, blood, soul and divinity of your dearly beloved son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

3. Pray these words ten times, one for each Hail Mary bead:

For the sake of his sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the world.

4. Repeat steps two and three so you have completed five decades. At the end pray these words three times:

Holy God, Holy Might One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
