Humility – St. Catherine Laboure

Genuine humility doesn’t agitate or afflict the soul; rather, this humility expands it and enables it to serve God more.

Flower Meaning

The more firmly this tendency to pride is implanted by nature in the heart of a woman, the more edifying and meritorious it is when she, with the aid of divine grace, fights against the tendency and gradually eradicates it, planting in its stead the fragrant violet of humility causing it to take root, to flourish and blossom.

– Rev. Frances  Lasance, The Catholic Girl’s Guide

I tell God everything that is in my heart. I tell Him about my pains and my joys, and then I listen. If you listen, God will also speak to you, for with the good Lord, you have to both speak and listen. God always speaks to you when you approach Him plainly and simply.

    Miraculous Medal Craft
This week, Nov. 28th, is the feast of St. Catherine Laboure. Since she was given the special vision of the Miraculous Medal, here’s a fun little craft from Catholic Icing to celebrate.

Before we started, Mom told the kids the story of the Miraculous Medal and St. Catherine Laboure. They loved it!

    You will need:

    Tin Foil
    Cardboard
    Pens
    Scissors
A Miraculous Medal template (Catholic Icing has a nice one)

Begin by cutting out the Miraculous Medal Templates.

Once you have paper cutout, trace it onto your cardboard.

    And cut out the oval.

Next, tape the paper ink-side-down onto the tin foil and trace the design using a firm hand to transfer it to the foil. It’s good to keep your cardboard under the foil to transfer more effectively.

This part is hard for the younger kids (3-7) so you can just have them color the printout instead.

Flip the foil over and wrap it around your cardboard. Try not to bend it too much during this part, otherwise the design will be hard to see.

Repeat these steps with the other side of the medal.

Now, poke a hole in the top with a pen.

Thread a string through the hole.

    And tie it tight.

And there you have it! Large Miraculous Medals made by kids!

    Time: 20 minutes

    Ages: 7+
    Cost: household materials (~$0.50)

Conclusion: Awesome craft! The kids loved it. Little Cecelia was so excited about making her own holy medal because then we didn’t have to buy them anymore. If these were a little smaller, they would make really cute Christmas Ornaments as well!
